Pic My Plate ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it when you use the Pic My Plate mobile application and website (together, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information: name, email address, and password when you sign up.
- Menu and dish photos: the photos you take of restaurant menus to scan, and the photos you take of your dishes to share or to help improve the food database.
- Friends and shared content: the friends you connect with and the dishes you choose to share with them.
- Communications: messages you send us for support or feedback.
Permissions the App Requests
- Camera and photo library: required to scan menus and to take or upload dish photos. Images leave your device only when you explicitly take or select them in the app.
- Location: used to confirm the restaurant you are currently at when scanning a menu, and to power the map view in the feed so you can find restaurants near you. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time from your device settings; the rest of the app will continue to work.
- Contacts: only if you choose to share a dish with someone from your contact list. We use this to let you pick a contact; we do not upload your full contact list.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core features of the Service: scanning menus, showing dish photos, and sharing dishes with friends.
- To improve the accuracy of our food database using the dish photos contributed by users.
- To power the Explore and Friends Feed features, so you can see restaurants visited by the community and what your friends have been eating.
- To manage your account and respond to support requests.
- To process optional premium subscriptions (handled by Apple or Google — we do not see your payment details).
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it in these limited cases:
- With other users: profile details and content you choose to share (for example, dishes you publish or share with a friend).
- With service providers: trusted third parties that help us operate the Service, such as cloud hosting and image storage. They may only use your data on our behalf.
- For legal reasons: when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Pic My Plate, our users, or others.
4. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or by contacting us at the email below. When you delete your account, your personal information and the content tied to it are removed, except where we are required to keep it for legal reasons.
5. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you.
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- Revoke camera, photo, location, or contacts permissions at any time from your device settings.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.
6. Children's Privacy
Pic My Plate is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after any changes means you accept the updated policy.
